Setting Up Google Base
Step 1: Sign Up for Google Base
Navigate to Google Base and use your Google Account to sign up for free. If you do not have a Google Account, you can get one at the Google Accounts page.
Step 2: Create a New Data Feed
Click on New Data Feed under the Data Feeds page in the My Items section of your Google Base account.
About Me
You may be redirected to the About Me page. If so, fill in the following information before clicking on Next. Note that all of this information will be displayed publicly with the items from your product feed. When finished, click on Next at the bottom of the page.
Display name
- The name of your company or organization. This is required.
Description
- A short description of your site and the products you offer. This is optional, but recommended.
Website URL
- The main URL of your online shop. This is optional, but recommended.
Register Your Data Feed
After clicking Next on the About Me page, you will be directed to the Register Your Data Feed page. There you need to select the following settings. When finished, click on Register Data Feed at the bottom of the page.
Select target country
- You can select United States, United Kingdom or Germany as your target country.
Select item type
- The most common item type is Products.
Select data feed type
- Leave the data feed type as googlebase.
Specify the data feed filename
- Enter feed as the data feed filename
Step 3: Upload Your Shopp Feed URL
Once Google Base has created your new data feed, you will be able to see it in the Data Feeds page of the My Items section in your Google Base account. It may take Google Base a few minutes to create your new data feed.
In your Data Feeds page, you will see a list of all your data feeds. Each feed has sections marked File, Uploads, Last upload date & status and Item status.
Under the Uploads section, click on Create next to the Schedule tab. A Schedule Upload window will pop up. Set when and how often you want Google Base to upload the Shopp feed from your site.
In this same window, find the field marked Url of file. This is where you will enter your Shopp feed URL.
Once you have entered your Shopp Feed URL into the Url of file field, click on Schedule in the bottom left part of the window.
Congratulations! Your Shopp Feed should now be uploaded! Google Base will start reading your feed at the time you set in the Schedule window. Your products should be published and searchable in Google Product Search within two days.
What is My Shopp Feed URL?
You can find your Shop feed URL by navigating to the page where you have your Shopp Catalog. Then, simply add feed to the end of URL in your address bar. For example, the feed URL for the Shopp Demo is http://demo.shopplugin.net/shop/feed since the Shopp Demo is using the page shop as the main catalog page.
