Before You Install

There are a few things to do before setting up Shopp:

  1. Ensure your website's server environment meets the Shopp Server Requirements
  2. Setup SSL on your server and install your certificate

Installing

Installing Shopp is as easy as installing any other WordPress plugin:

  1. Purchase a copy of Shopp at shopplugin.net
  2. Download the plugin file shopp.zip
  3. Unzip shopp.zip
  4. Upload the shopp/ directory to your (wordpress)/wp-content/plugins/ directory
  5. You may wish to override some predefined Shopp macros in your wp-config.php file.
  6. Login to your WordPress administration page and click Plugins
  7. Find the Shopp Plugin and click Activate. The Shopp menu will become available.
  8. Click on ShoppSettings to begin setting up your new store.

Troubleshooting

If you run into issues activating Shopp, double check the Server Requirements. You might also want to take a look at the Troubleshooting articles.

Shopp Pages

Once Shopp has been successfully activated, the plugin will automatically install the necessary database additions and create four pages as placeholders for your shopping pages. By default, these pages are named:

  • Shop - The main catalog page, responsible for displaying your categories and products
  • Cart - The shopping cart
  • Checkout - The checkout form
  • Your Orders - For shoppers to access previous orders

Each of these pages include Shopp-specific shortcodes. Shortcodes are words surrounded by brackets such as [catalog]. These shortcodes are replaced with dynamic content generated by Shopp. Since the Shopp shortcodes automatically deliver your store content, you can rename the Shopp installed pages and not affect your shop performance. You can move the pages into sub-pages or even set the main Shop catalog page as the home page of your blog/website. However, do not have multiple pages with duplicate shortcodes. For example, [catalog] should only exist on one WordPress page, otherwise your visitors may experience unexpected behavior when browsing your store.

Setup

After installation, you will need to customize your store settings in order for your new Shopp installation to work properly. You can find out details about each setting screen here:
