I'm having problems getting Shopp to activate. Where can I find help?
Most of the known issues that cause this are from things outside of Shopp, like your web hosting setup. Take a look at the Troubleshooting articles for details.

Is technical support free?
Free technical support is only generally available in the form of this documentation site, and the Shopp community-driven forums for solving all range of problems from installation, setup assitance, customization guidance and technical issues. Customization support for "how to make Shopp do XYZ" is not currently available. Shopp support team members may occasionally interact with users on the public forum, but official support requests should be submitted at the Helpdesk.

Official support from Ingenesis Limited may be available on a limited basis for finding, diagnosing and fixing problems. Official support may be provided free of charge at the discretion of Ingenesis Limited, but due to limited resources, free support response may vary greatly. When free support is available it will be provided on a first come, first serve basis, and also as our time is most efficiently spent.

Please bear in mind that there can be many other users asking for help at any given time, and free support resources are very limited, so you should not expect a response in less than 24 hours during business days (Monday - Friday) and during the hours of 8AM-5PM Eastern Standard Time. Support responses can certainly exceed a week in some cases, particularly for issues that we can not reproduce in our development environment.

Do you have a customer service number?
You can call +1 (888) 808-8716 and leave a message. Please understand that there is currently no phone support team. The number will allow you to leave voicemail for Jonathan Davis, the author of Shopp. Keep in mind his time is limited and is generally available Monday thru Friday from 9am to 5pm. Be warned that not every call will receive an answer, especially if the issue is already answered in the documentation or forums, so check there first.

Who develops and maintains Shopp?
Shopp was developed by Jonathan Davis of Ingenesis Limited. Ingenesis Limited currently focuses on Shopp development as its primary business focus, while also providing private web site development and design consulting.

Is there a 30-day trial/evaluation version?
No, due to our unique distribution model, a trial/evaluation version is impossible. While it is not the same as being able to install the software in your development, staging or live environments, there is an online demo available that will give you a sense for how Shopp works and what it can do: Shopp Demo

I heard Shopp was "open source". Why can't I just download it?
Shopp is licensed under the GNU GPLv3, the most prominent Free (as in liberty) Software license. In this case, the word free means "protecting your freedoms", not "free from cost". We sell access to the software at the Shopp Store. Sales cover the costs of distribution and also help support the continued development of the project.

Is there a refund policy?
As Shopp is software (a digital good that cannot be returned), a refund guarantee is not possible. Please see our sales and refund policy.

How do I find out if my hosting provider will support Shopp?
Check the Requirements of Shopp to start. You can download and install the Shopp Requirements Check plugin that will tell you if your hosting environment will work for Shopp.

Which version of Shopp should I purchase for a WordPress MU install?
There isn't a set policy on this as of yet... The best answer so far is to use your best judgement on what is "fair" for how you are planning to use it. If you are reselling multiple Shopp sites to others but expect them to contact us for support, you can have them purchase their own "key" although they will be using your pre-installed/updated version of Shopp, meaning you need only purchase a single-site version for your deployment. If you are using WPMU for your own sites that you will manage, you might consider a the developer version if the number of sites you will manage make the developer version more economical.

Can I upgrade from a single-site to developer version of Shopp?
Yes, you can upgrade one single-site key to a developer key. To do so, visit the Shopp Store, and select Developer Access [Upgrade]. Then submit your single-site key, which will be upgraded to a developer key on completion of your purchase.
